Good Sources for Socialists - January 2017

At the end of a tumultuous year, an appreciative look at the most likely places we go for our monthly "Good Reads." They keep us informed and energized and most of them manage on donations or (in the case of online magazines) binary subscription revenue. They may provide the information fueling our Pessimism of the Intellect, but when it comes to Optimism of the Will -- well, don't forget to include them in your Will.

These can't be all the good sources. Note below we ask you to add to the list.

The magazines:

Jacobin, on labor's fails and not-so-fails...

Mother Jones, on the exploitative vulture poised to be Labor Sec...

In These Times, on the suppression of local governance by the legal system...

Mike Konczal in The Nation, on the worker anxiety that Trump exploited...

Dissent, with an historical look at the domestic workers' organizations of past and future...

American Prospect's take on the likely resurgence of wage theft in a Trump administration and how to fight it...

News from Chicago in Labor Notes about how temp workers disaggregated by the gig economy can organize in a purposeful incubator...

The aggregators

Circulating work from the above sources (and many others) more widely plus providing original work as well...

Alternet, with a reminder that humankind has had worse years than 2016...

Our comrade Paul Buhle with an original on the CIA's sordid past in Portside...

Common Dreams with an account of last-ditch (and maybe even organized?!) Democratic attempts to ratchet down the damage to Obamacare under Trump...
